About us#

icons is built by botBrains, a small software company in Berlin, Germany.

We built icons because nearly every dashboard, bookmark manager, and link list on the web needs favicons - and nearly all of them fetch them from Google's s2 endpoint, quietly telling a US ad company which sites every visitor is looking at. That felt fixable. Our convictions shape the product:

• No logs, by architecture. We do not log IP addresses, user agents, or referrers. The only per-visitor state is a salted rate-limit hash, in memory, whose salt rotates daily - even we cannot link yesterday to today. Privacy you do not have to take on faith.
• European by construction. Everything - including our identity service - runs on Hetzner servers in Germany. Requests from your visitors never leave the EU. No US cloud, no CDN, no third-party analytics. The full story is on the Compliance page.
• Never a broken image. Infrastructure should degrade gracefully: a domain without a favicon gets a deterministic letter tile, not a 404 that breaks your layout.
• Free means free. Rate limits protect the servers, they are not a paywall. Higher limits cost a DNS TXT record, not money - see the docs.
